Led by the Vice President of Diversity Equity and Inclusion Joe Matthews, the Gentex DEI Council is a cross-departmental group of employees who support the company’s strategic initiatives to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion at Gentex.
The company is working to break down barriers to employment. Here are some of the major initiatives underway to make it easier for people to be active in the workforce. Gentex is building an on-site childcare center for the children of employees. The childcare center will have extended hours to meet the needs of parents working second shift.
People who primarily speak Spanish can apply for our Limited English Proficiency (LEP) program in manufacturing. The LEP program has expanded over the years and now includes opportunities on all three shifts in multiple facilities.
Gentex opened a satellite manufacturing facility on Cottage Grove Street in Madison Square to provide job opportunities within walking distance to this underserved area and remove a transportation barrier to employment.
It also opened a Technology Hub in downtown Grand Rapids to serve as a workspace for engineering and software technologists to support the company’s growing business and expanding product portfolio.
Business Resource Groups help our employees become more engaged in ways to leverage diversity and increase inclusion. They foster communication between Gentex’s senior leadership and its employees, contribute to the development of our future leaders, expand our community outreach, and help strengthen our workforce and workplace.

Women@Gentex serves to be a catalyst for women to achieve their personal and professional purpose in career, community, and marketplace. The group is open to everyone at Gentex – if you are a woman or an ally for women.
Gentex V.E.T.S. mission is to equip Gentex veterans with skills for success through coaching, mentorship, and development, as well as develop partnerships with military organizations to identify Gentex as an employer of choice for veterans.
The Emerging Professionals group provides professional development, networking events, and exposure to new opportunities to support employees as they grow their careers at Gentex.
The DEI Council partners with local schools to help host Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) nights to get students excited about careers in STEM. Our chemistry and engineering teams set up exciting hands-on activities to engage students.
