Melinda Holthus’s journey at Gentex is a reflection of dedication, growth, and leadership in action.
She joined Gentex 12 years ago as a production team member on the manufacturing floor. Over the years, Holthus has built her experience across multiple positions, including machine operator, TMS, PSTL, and ultimately, earning her current role as a Production Group Leader.
As a 3rd shift group leader, Holthus plays a critical role in shaping the tone and performance of her team. She leads with a consistent focus on creating a positive, engaging environment—one she believes directly impacts productivity and team success since working in the middle of the night can be a challenge.
“Making the workday fun reduces stress, builds stronger relationships, and improves moods across the team,” Holthus said. “When the environment you are in is positive, it makes it way easier to stay focused and be productive, even when the day may be challenging.”
Her leadership style is rooted in presence, communication, and support. Having worked her way up from the production floor, Holthus understands the importance of being accessible and engaged with her team. She makes a point to listen, step in when needed, and lead by example—earning the respect of those around her.
That impact hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“She’s a great team player,” said fellow Group Leader Jacob Herrera. “She always tries to make work fun for her team to boost morale. When I was a PSTL, Melinda helped me out so much and pulled me up. I’m very grateful for her.”
For Holthus, one of the most rewarding parts of leadership is helping others grow. She takes pride in building confidence within her team and supporting employees as they develop new skills.
“Watching people get those small wins is the ultimate reward,” she said. “To know that I may have had even a small part in helping someone grow is so meaningful to me.”
She also credits Gentex’s culture and support system as key factors in her development. The relationships she’s built and the accountability within her team environment have helped shape her leadership approach.
“I am sure it is no surprise, but my favorite part of Gentex is the people,” Holthus said. “There is always someone willing to step up and help when you need it, but also hold you accountable. Being part of a team that works hard but keeps it positive and fun is what makes it so enjoyable.”
Holthus emphasizes that growth into leadership comes from consistency, initiative, and a willingness to learn. She encourages others to take feedback seriously, ask questions, and stay proactive in their development.
“The production floor taught me that being a leader who is present, listens, and steps in when needed really matters,” she said. “That experience drives how I show up for my team every day.”
Her advice to others looking to grow their careers is simple: stay consistent, use the resources available, and surround yourself with people who push you to succeed.
“It can take time to get where you want to be,” she said. “But you can get there.”
